Pansy Stud Earrings in Anodised Aluminium Pale Pink with Sterling Silver or Anodized Niobium posts

Sorry, this item has sold.

Pansies always make me smile, its something about their little 'faces' I think. These dainty viola earrings will bring a smile to your face too.

The individual pansies are drawn and over dyed before the colour is sealed into the anodised aluminium. Then they are cut and shaped by hand using traditional metalsmithing techniques.

The earrings come with your choice of earring post, opt for traditional sterling silver with a butterfly back or the relatively new innovation of anodised niobium (in this case a magenta or golden colour) with a hypoallergenic plastic earring back. To find out more about the materials used in these earrings keep reading...

As aluminium cannot be soldered the little pansies are not permanently attached to the posts - You can wear the posts on their own as tiny studs if you like, that's two pairs for the price of one! The final image shows a pansy earring (not one for sale!) being worn next to the sterling stud to give you an idea of scale.

Dimensions approx:
Pansies 9 x 10mm

Your earrings will be packaged in a gift box.

Anodised Aluminium
The anodising process creates a layer on the surface of the aluminium which accepts colour and can be permanently sealed to give a colour fast, hard wearing finish.

Anodised Niobium
Very similar to aluminium, anodising the metal element niobium allows it to be permanently coloured. It is a hypoallergenic alternative to Silver and is completely free from nickel, copper, lead and other irritants.

What is Niobium?

Niobium is an element (formerly known as Colombium) which can be anodised, and therefore coloured, just like Aluminium. It is light and strong which is important for jewellery but possibly more important is that it is hypoallergenic. This makes it suitable for those with sensitivity to other metals.

What is anodised Aluminium?

Aluminium (or Aluminum if you prefer) can be anodised by submerging it in acid and subjecting to an electrical current. This results in a microscopic, almost honeycomb surface. Colour added to that surface is sealing into the chambers with heat and the result is permanently coloured metal - The colours you see on my anodised Aluminium cannot wash or rub off.
Aluminium is extremely light which makes is perfect for comfortable jewellery. It cannot be soldered, like Silver for example, so you will find items like my Pansy Stud earrings can be separated into the studs (Sterling Silver or Niobium) and the anodised Aluminium flower. This means you can wear the studs alone if you wish - two pairs for the price of one!
